Tracking down rare fauna in Red Dead Redemption 2 provides players with valuable crafting materials and unique gameplay experiences across the frontier. Among these elusive targets, the Legendary Coyote stands out as a prized hunt located in the heart of Lemoyne. Securing this creature allows players to craft exclusive gear and unlock powerful character enhancements.

Locating the Legendary Coyote Territory

The Legendary Coyote inhabits the region known as Scarlett Meadows in Lemoyne, situated just northwest of Rhodes. Hunters can pinpoint its exact territory south of Dewberry Creek, where the landscape flattens into dry creek beds and open fields. Entering this area will trigger an on-screen notification confirming you have entered legendary animal grounds.

If the black notification banner does not appear upon entering Dewberry Creek, make sure there is no active conflict or nearby camp activity. You can set up camp at a safe distance and sleep to reset the area's ambient spawn conditions. Once quiet returns to the creek, return to start searching for the animal's tracking markers.

Tracking the Clues in Dewberry Creek

To begin tracking the beast, activate your Eagle Eye ability to locate a glowing white question mark on your mini-map. The initial clue is typically a pile of coyote dung situated in an open grassy area near the creek bed. Inspecting this clue reveals a distinct scent trail leading further along the terrain.

Following the highlighted path leads to a second clue consisting of scattered coyote fur along the dry riverbed. Continuing along this trail brings you to a third clue, which is a half-eaten sheep carcass left behind by the predator. Inspecting this final piece of evidence confirms that the animal is lurking just ahead near an old abandoned mill.

Hunting Strategy and Recommended Weapons

Because legendary animal pelts cannot be damaged by heavy weaponry, you can use high-powered firearms without ruining your reward. A powerful repeater or rifle loaded with express ammunition offers sufficient stopping power to take the target down quickly. Utilizing Dead Eye mode ensures precise shots to the head or vital organs before the creature startles and flees.

Approach the mill cautiously from downwind to avoid alerting the coyote to your presence. Once you spot the dark gray, larger-than-average animal, engage Dead Eye and land multiple clean hits. If it manages to escape, simply leave the territory for a few in-game days before attempting the tracking process again.

Rewards and Crafting Options

After successfully taking down the beast, skinning the body yields a Legendary Coyote Pelt and a Legendary Coyote Fang. Taking the pelt to the Trapper allows you to craft the Legendary Coyote Mountain Hat and Legendary Coyote Half Chaps. These unique clothing items form part of The Huntsman garment set.

Additionally, bringing the Legendary Coyote Fang to any Fence unlocks the ability to craft the Coyote Fang Trinket. This valuable accessory grants a permanent ten percent boost to all Dead Eye experience gained throughout your journey. Utilizing these rewards significantly aids Arthur Morgan's overall combat efficiency and customization options.
